If your MINI does not detect the physical vehicle key in the interior and cannot be started, the key's battery is discharged or the connection to the vehicle is faulty. Position the vehicle key near the steering column. In an emergency, you can start the vehicle with the integrated key or the integrated emergency detection. To do this, hold the back of the vehicle key against the marking on the steering column. If the problem persists, contact the service team at your local MINI dealer.
Vehicle key detection by the vehicle may malfunction under the following circumstances:
– The battery of the vehicle key is discharged.
– Fault of the radio link from transmission towers or other equipment with high transmitting power.
– Shielding of the vehicle key due to metal objects. Do not transport the vehicle key together with metal objects.
– Fault of the radio link from mobile phones or other electronic devices in direct proximity to the vehicle key. Do not carry the vehicle key in close proximity to other electronic devices.
– Fault of radio transmission by a charging process of mobile devices, for instance charging of a mobile phone.
– The vehicle key is located in direct proximity of the wireless charging tray. Place the vehicle key in a different location.
In the case of interference, the vehicle can also be unlocked and locked from the outside with the integrated key. Use the Emergency detection of the vehicle key to turn on drive-ready state.
