Why does the seat belt warning sound in my MINI even though I am wearing my seat belt?

The Seat Belt Warning warns the driver if the seat belts are not fastened.  The seat belt reminder becomes active in the following situations:

  • When the seat belt on the driver's side or on the passenger's side is not fastened.
  • When the seat belt is unfastened while driving.
  • When objects are laying on the seat.

 

The seat occupancy in your MINI is detected by two components: The seat belt buckle switch and seat occupancy mat. If the seat occupancy mat detects a seat being occupied without the seat belt being engaged into the seat belt buckle, a visual and acoustic seat belt warning is issued. To deactivate the seat belt warning, you can engage the seat belt into the buckle or store heavy objects in the footwell or cargo area.
