What is the difference between MINI Digital Key and MINI Digital Key Plus?

Depending on your MINI vehicle’s equipment, it may be equipped with MINI Digital Key or MINI Digital Key Plus. Listed below are differences between the two.

 

How to unlock

  • MINI Digital Key:  You will need to hold the compatible smart device to the door handle on the driver's side to lock and unlock. 
  • MINI Digital Key Plus:  Vehicle automatically locks or unlocks when approaching or leaving. 

 

How to start

  • MINI Digital Key:  To start the engine, the driver can place the device in the wireless charging tray and push START/ STOP to start the engine. 
  • MINI Digital Key Plus:  To start the engine, the driver must push START/ STOP. 

 

How to share

  • MINI Digital Key:  The Digital Key can be shared with up to 5 friends and family members.
  • MINI Digital Key Plus:  The Digital Key Plus can be shared with up to 18 friends and family members. 

 

NOTE:  Use of this feature is dependent on various preconditions regarding the smartphone hardware, software, and network provider.
