What can I do if my iPhone no longer connects via Apple CarPlay in my MINI equipped with iDrive 6?

To use Apple CarPlay, you must connect your iPhone as a mobile device via Bluetooth® in the vehicle and activate Apple CarPlay in the settings of the connected device. Wi-Fi must be enabled in the vehicle and on your iPhone.

 

If your iPhone no longer connects via Apple CarPlay or the connection is repeatedly interrupted during use, carry out the following steps:

 

Update MINI Assist in the vehicle:

 

  • Via iDrive: "MINI Connected"
  • Press the OPTION button.
  • "Update MINI Services"
  • After the update is complete, select "Close/OK."  
  • Shut your vehicle down and lock the doors and let it sit for 30 minutes to run a sleep cycle.

Please ensure that your iPhone has the most up to date iOS installed. Reboot your iPhone by holding the side button until the power off slide button appears. Drag the slider and wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

 

If these steps have not resolved your concerns, please proceed with the following:

 

Once you have rebooted your iPhone, please ensure WiFi, Siri, and Bluetooth are turned on in your iPhone settings menu. I encourage you to establish a fresh connection between the phone and vehicle. Delete your iPhone pairing from the vehicle and pairing your phone back to the vehicle to connect your mobile devices. You can delete your phone by using the following steps in the vehicle:

  • Via Central Information Display: "My MINI"
  • "System settings"
  • "Mobile devices"
  • Select device.
  • "Delete device"

Once the phone is deleted in the vehicle, proceed to delete your MINI from your iPhone in the Bluetooth menu.  In order to delete a device from you iPhone, please use these steps: 

  • "Settings"
  • "Bluetooth"
  • Click the blue "i" next to your MINI
  • "Forget this device"

Now that the phone has been deleted off the vehicle and the vehicle off of your phone, proceed to connect your telephone back to the vehicle by following these steps:

  • Via Central Information Display: "My MINI"
  •  "System settings""
  • "Mobile devices"
  • Select device.
  • "Connect device"

On your iPhone:

  • "Settings"
  • "General"
  • "CarPlay"
  • Click your vehicle's ID under "Available Cars."
  • During the pairing of your telephone, your iPhone will ask if you would like to use Apple CarPlay.  You can select "Use Apple CarPlay" to establish a connection to Apple CarPlay.
